Organize Nationwide Trash Disney Parties

Sun Sep 10, 2006 at 09:15:35 AM PDT

I was having a lively discussion with my wife about Disney's determination  to turn itself into a tool of the extreme right wing of the Repiglican party. The discussion came down to what we would do if they went ahead with this propaganda piece. My wife laughingly suggested what I consider to be a brilliant response!

If Disney insists on trashing Democrats we can, respond by holding  public  trash Disney Parties!
A public get togethers where participants take every Disney product they own and one by one toss them into the trash!
Immediately images of people  tossing Mickey and  Donald into  the back of Garbage  truck  on local and   national media outlets danced across my mind and inspired me to post this, my very first Dairy. What do you Kossaks think?

the burnings like other people have suggested. Burning a huge pile of Disney materials is just fodder for the right to make Nazi analogies.

Of course, many of us environmentally-conscious lefties do have an issue with either throwing them out or burning them, but I'm sure we'll find green ways to dispose of our Disney materials.

maybe hang a Disney character upside-down.

I'm not ready to trash everything Disney/ABC because I live in hope that they may yet redeem themselves somehow.

What about putting Disney stuff on ice, in a locked chest....hold hostage until the corporation acts like good American citizens?

    are your friend.

Take all your Disney DVDs and CDs, soundtracks, whatever, and trade them in at your local second-hand record shop.  You'll get a couple of bucks out of it, and it'll be great seeing anything Disney in a bargain bin.

I live near to Disney's studios over here on the Left Coast and am alternatively thinking of driving over there and dumping any Disney stuff I can find on their doorstep.  There isn't a lot, because we're not much of a Disney-using household in the first place.  But my Pirates of the Caribbean DVD can certainly go back to them with a nice little note explaining why, and suggesting where they shove it.

Another poster came up with that idea, I think it is brilliant!  along with trashing, nothing hurts more than the volumes of your stuff being retuned.

Also, go to the ABC and Disney web sites.  Familiarize yourself with the products-- Winnie the Pooh, the Muppets, ESPN.

Below is a list of all of Disney's holding companies.  Hit them all up and down the chain-- suppliers, vendors, distributors, sponsors.

Our message should be clear: in making our communication pay off, let’s affect Disney’s bottom line with this message— as salient stakeholders we are holding you socially accountable by our actions, therefore you will be held socially responsible.

    •  Send everything to the Corporate Offices (0+ / 0-)

Flood the corporate mail bags with returned Disney products. That would leave them figuring out what to do next. It also seems like posters, flyers and other handouts, asking people to boycott Disney products ought to appear at every outlet where their products are sold, video stores, gift shops, etc, etc.  They have distorted history for children for a long time, actually... when you get right down to it.

    •  Great ideas (0+ / 0-)

The  point I feel that makes Trash Parties so attractive is the Publicity they would  generate.  I'm sure Disney would do it's best to make sure there would be as little publicity and keep the public from knowing the real number of returns it received.

I've worked on a few Disney movies with good people who don't deserve to have their films burned because a bunch of assholes in ABC television and Disney management decide to play propagandists.

While I agree with the reactions to this film, I don't think this is smart protest. I would much rather see this kind of energy put into house parties to elect Democrats to take over Congress.

  •  I like a coordinated campaign (0+ / 0-)

to send back DVDs and videos to Disney. Send them all to one office that we choose, so it makes more of an impact. Write on the boxes a catchy slogan so they know what it is we're saying with the mail, even if they don't open them.

Let Disney know their actions will have a future financial consequence. Say we're quitting Disney.

  •  Need Video of Mickey being flushed (0+ / 0-)

Hey guys - I'd do this if I had a video camera but I'm just a producer. We need a video clip of a small plastic Mickey Mouse being flushed down the drain. He can't be too big or he'll get stuck in the plumbing.
I saw a clip like this in the 60's in a prize-winning Canadian film. We need this posted on you-tube. Do it!

  •  I suggest getting the Disney paraphenalia out of (0+ / 0-)

all of our lives.  So don't bother giving it to Goodwill.  Destroy it and put it in the trash.  Devoid the world of Disney and all it represents.  Which we now know to be Republican filth.
